Introduction:
The radio and appliance manufacturer Electrohome is located in Kitchener, Ontario. Originally in business from 1925 on as Grimes Corporation they changed name to Phonola Company of Canada, then soon to Dominion Electrohome Co. Ltd. and finally to Electrohome Industries Ltd..
After WWII they used "Electrohome" also as brand name for their radios and home appliances.
Electrohome also made radios for many other companies, like "Viking" for Eatons, "Serenader" for Simpsons, "Dictator" for the Hudson Bay Company, "Arcadia" for McLeod in the West, "Munro" in the Maritimes, and many more. Some of their models command high collector prices, like their APOLLO series of bubble stereos or their CIRCA stereo consoles. This cute radio/gramophone side table was made in 1948. The radio uses a conventional AA5 chassis supplemented by a 12SK7 RF amplifier stage, which gives it high selectivity and sensitivity. The 78 rpm-only record player has been equipped with a modern flip-flop ceramic cartridge, so it can also play the high density 78 rpm microgroove records, made mainly in Canada.
