1946 Stromberg Carlson 752 Table Radio with Woven Metal Grille

Rare "Dynatomic" Style Wooden Table Radio Model 752 made by Stromberg Carlson in 1946

In a Nutshell
This radio is rare and very beautiful, made right after the war in 1946 in a totally new style.

Introduction:
After WWII all radio manufacturers had to start from scratch. In Europe their facilities were destroyed by the war, in USA factories had to stop wartime economy and return to manufacturing civil commodities. There was a high demand for radios. Some makers used their last prewar documents and parts to start new models. Not so Stromberg Carlson. Their last prewar models were rather straight rectangular box type designs, the first models after the war were a number of "Ultra Modern Dynatomic" radios, very elegant bakelite radios with a dial that looks like swinging out from under the top (pict.24). Model 752 for sale here is the only Dynatomic wooden radio I know of. Model 752 APT looks similar but had a record player built-in. The standing out feature is the speaker grille, which is woven from 4 different stripes of ornate punched metal stripes (pict.20). Most of the few instances of this radio found on the net, have this grille replaced by a normal cloth grille. The expensive transformer chassis used and its tube set are rare, especially for post-war sets (found mostly in some Westinghouse and Packard Bell 1946 radios). The radio has a factory installed phono jack with separate switch and connected to the volume potentiometer, allowing playback of cellphones, mp3 players, etc..

For the techies only:
Shortwave for this radio is minimalistic, only the spreaded 31m band. Although not as popular as the 49m band, there is activity at daytime that can be followed 1000-2000 km away. And it gets better in the evening and at night, when this band is currently the most heavily used one.
