In a Nutshell
Holy Grail of every Vogue Picture Record Collector
Introduction:
Billboard [Magazine]
March 30, 1946: “The Vogue disks are unlike anything currently peddled on the market, in that they are made of a coating of transparent vinylite, under which is a heat resistant paper disk, on which is printed a picture, illustrating the story of the title and lyrics of the song.” Vogue Records were produced for only 11 months from May 6, 1946 on, by Sav-Way Industries of Detroit, Michigan, as the brainchild of inventor and entrepreneur Tom Saffady. Vogue records feature dance bands of the time, with bandleaders Clyde McCoy, Art Kassel, Art Mooney, Shep Fields, Frankie Masters, Sonny Dunham, Enric Madriguera, Dick LaSalle and others. Today's collectors have the choice between 74 double-sided 10" 78 rpm records (and 9 albums), of which the first one R 707 (Sugar Blues / Basin Street Blues) is also the most common one. At any given time there are about 40 R 707 for sale on eBay, with prices between $5-50. Popsike (ref.8) has listed sales records, with R 715 ranking highest from 3 eBay auctions: $10003 (44 bids), $7211 (34 bids), $6490 (7 bids). The supposedly "rarest" Vogue R 784 ranks 4th with $4208. Valueyourmusic lists R 715 as number 13 of "The 100 most valuable 78 rpm Records of All Time" (ref.9). If price is a measure of rarity, R 715 is the rarest of all Vogue picture records. The main reason a record is rare, is its low production volume. The reason R 715 was a limited edition, can only be speculated. Vogue had a lot of problems which caused some bandleaders to leave before October 1946, Shep Fields was one of them.

About my record:
The two sides of my record R 715 are : Waitin' For The Train To Come In (matrix P 17) / I Can't Begin To Tell You (matrix P 18). They are performed by bandleader Shep Fields [1910-1981] with his orchestra and vocalist Meredith Blake [1917-1985] . The record is in excellent condition: no edge chips, no cracks or hairlines, no visible deep scratches, no warping, no discolorations, not a "factory reject", not a "second", no handwritten matrix and take numbers, translucent edge without milky whitening or yellowing. Both sides play fine without skips, repeats or annoying periodic crackles, with only moderate sizzling background. This sizzling is caused by dust particles inside the grooves and can be reduced by cleaning the record and optimizing the tip size of the gramophone needle.
