1945 Westinghouse H-126 Little Jewel Refrigerator Radio
Post-war Art-deco Table Radio in Beautiful and Working Condition
In a Nutshell
Selective and sensitive, plays nicely due to its 6th RF amplifier tube
This "Little Jewel" 6-tube AM radio was made right after the war originally in 4 colors: H-124 dark green, H-125 light blue, H-126 ivory, H-127 burgundy/maroon. The export models H-134, H-135 apparently used the same colors. Small-sized 6" x 6" x 9" the radio was also dubbed a "console radio in capsule form". Its second moniker "Refrigerator Radio" relates to the saga, that it was also given away to buyers of a Westinghouse fridge, based however only on oral recounts, not on advertisings. The built-in loop antenna and the additional 12SK7 RF amplifier, give it extreme sensitivity and selectivity. The retractable and disappearing handle give it a unique and distinctive look. The painted bakelite "air stream cabinet" is prone to be chipped and is often repainted in bright non-authentic colors, which looks gorgeous, if done correctly (stripping before repainting, see ref.1). My radio is in original condition with almost no damages to the ivory paint. The central brass part too has its original golden oil paint. Everything else is original: handle, knobs, feet, grille cloth, Westinghouse medallion, speaker, dial etc.. The chassis is the late version with the 35L6GT output tube instead of the early loctal 35A5. The radio plays fine, as I have shown in a youtube video (ref.2 or click on thumbnail 30).
